UAL Wimbledon – Theatre Electrical & Heating Upgrade

Project Overview

MW Building Services (MWBS) was appointed to deliver a significant electrical and heating upgrade within the theatre environment at University of the Arts London (UAL), Wimbledon Campus.

The project involved upgrading the theatre’s electrical infrastructure and installing a new heating solution across both the ground and secondary levels of the space.

Working within a busy specialist theatre environment presented several challenges, particularly around cable routing, equipment positioning and maintaining a neat, professional finish. MWBS carefully planned and coordinated the installation to ensure the works were completed safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to the client.

The Challenge

The existing theatre required improved heating provision, together with suitable electrical infrastructure to support the new heating equipment.

Due to the layout and use of the theatre, the installation needed to provide effective heating coverage while ensuring that new electrical cabling and containment were securely installed and appropriately integrated into the existing environment.

The project therefore required a combination of electrical expertise, heating installation and careful coordination around the existing theatre facilities.

Our Solution

MWBS designed and delivered an upgraded electrical infrastructure to support the new heating installation.

A new distribution board was installed within the electrical cupboard serving the theatre, providing dedicated electrical supplies for the new heating equipment.

Extensive metal conduit was installed throughout the theatre, providing robust protection for the electrical cabling and creating durable, clearly defined cable routes across both levels.

The heating installation incorporated a combination of:

  • Ceiling-mounted overhead heaters

  • Wall-mounted radiant heaters

  • Dedicated electrical supplies

  • New distribution board

  • Metal conduit and associated containment

  • Complete electrical connections and testing

The heating equipment was carefully positioned to provide suitable coverage throughout the occupied areas while taking account of the existing theatre layout and infrastructure.

Quality, Safety & Attention to Detail

Given the specialist nature of the theatre, particular attention was paid to the appearance and positioning of the installation.

The use of metal conduit provided a durable and robust cable management solution while maintaining a clean and professional finish.

MWBS coordinated the electrical and heating installation to ensure that all equipment, cabling and containment were installed safely and in accordance with the requirements of the project.

Testing & Commissioning

Upon completion, MWBS carried out the required electrical inspection and testing before commissioning the new heating system.

All electrical connections were checked and tested, and the heating equipment was commissioned to confirm correct operation.

The completed installation was handed over fully operational and ready for ongoing use.
