UAL – Kings Cross: Plumbing Infrastructure Upgrade
University of the Arts London – King’s Cross Campus
The MWBS team successfully delivered a critical plumbing upgrade project at the University of the Arts London’s King’s Cross Campus, ensuring the reliability and performance of key water systems while minimising disruption to daily operations.
Project Overview
The works focused on replacing a large section of corroded copper pipework serving essential systems, including non-potable boosted cold water, hot water flow, and hot water return. Due to the importance of these services, careful planning and execution were required to maintain continuity across the campus.
Our Approach
To enable a safe and efficient installation, the team carried out a planned out-of-hours shutdown. During this period, new isolation valves were installed, allowing greater control over the system and enabling the main pipework replacement to be completed during the working week without impacting wider operations.
This phased approach ensured:
- Controlled and safe system isolation
- Reduced risk during pipework replacement
- Minimal disruption to building users and campus activities
Delivery
All works were completed safely, on schedule, and in line with project requirements. The upgraded systems were fully reinstated, tested, and are now operating as intended.
Outcome
This project demonstrates MWBS’s ability to deliver complex infrastructure upgrades in live environments through detailed planning, technical expertise, and strong team coordination. The result is a more reliable and maintainable plumbing system that supports the ongoing needs of the campus.
